When Marnie Was There

This little masterpiece is brought to us by Studio Ghibli, who under the direction of Hayao Miyazaki has produced the absolute best traditionally animated films in the last 10 years or so.  This film is directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi who has worked as an animator on some of the best Ghibli productions and previously directed the near perfect film “The Secret World of Arrietty”.  This film lives up to the exceptions I had of the Director and also the studio.  The animation is nearly flawless, and often breathtaking.  Add to this an emotionally gripping tale of a troubled teenager who struggles with loss and relationships.  The characters feel real, and their problems and responses seem authentic.  One of my all time favorite animated films and one of the best films I have seem in some time.
